Assistant Manager (Customs Clearance)

 

Job Description


•    Team Leadership: Supervise, guide, and motivate a team of 15 staff to ensure smooth daily operations and high service standards.
•    Customs Operations: Oversee end-to-end clearance processes for imports and exports, ensuring full compliance with Myanmar customs laws and regulations.
•    Process & Reporting: Establish SOPs, reporting systems, and KPIs to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency across the team.
•    Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong working relationships with customs officers, port authorities, subagents, and trucking companies to resolve issues quickly and ensure smooth clearance.
•    Client Service: Act as an escalation point for customers, providing timely updates, resolving clearance challenges, and maintaining trust through transparent communication.
•    Business Growth Support: Work closely with Sales and Business Development teams to provide customs-related support for tenders, multinational clients, and new business opportunities.
•    Training & Development: Share updates on regulatory changes, coach team members, and enhance the overall capability of the customs clearance team.
•    Integrity & Compliance: Ensure all declarations and activities are conducted honestly, ethically, and in compliance with company and legal standards. Preparation of ISO documents and cyclic review. 


Job Requirement

 

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or related field. Equivalent experience also considered.
•    Experience: At least 5 years in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or import/export operations, with some supervisory or team leadership experience.
•    Customs Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Myanmar customs rules, import/export procedures, and HS codes. A customs broker license is an advantage.
•    Industry Exposure: Experience handling shipments for industries such as food & beverage, heavy industry, packaging, and chemicals.
•    Networks: Good connections with customs officers, port authorities, subagents, and transport providers.
•    Leadership: Ability to guide, motivate, and develop a team; proven record of improving team performance.
•    Problem-Solving & Reporting: Analytical mindset with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and monitor performance using KPIs.
•    Communication: Fluent in Burmese and English; capable of dealing with local staff and international clients.
•    Customer Focus & Integrity: Service-minded, transparent, and trustworthy in all dealings
